Tune in online, or at 106.7 FM / 740 AM
  • On Groundhog Day, 1948 people living around Mount Airy, North Carolina tuned their radios to 740 on the AM dial. After months of anticipation and excitement, they heard the first radio station their area could call its own.
  • WPAQ presents a combination of bluegrass, old time and gospel music, plus religious programs not too removed from the original 1948 offerings.
  • Live music by local musicians is presented each Saturday on WPAQ’s Merry-Go-Round program.

We are incredibly grateful to share that WPAQ has once again been nominated for Bluegrass Radio Station of the Year by the Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music of America

This nomination truly belongs to the musicians who trust us with their songs, the DJs who show up with passion and knowledge every week, and most of all, our listeners who keep bluegrass alive by tuning in, calling in, and supporting local music.

Being included alongside so many respected stations is an honor we don’t take lightly. Thank you to SPBGMA, and thank you to our bluegrass community near and far. We’re proud to do this work and grateful to be part of such a special tradition!
